Assistant Economist 2025 Campaign - Strongest Topic
GES Assistant Economist Campaign 2025:
Economic Assessment Centre
Strongest Area of Economics
Dear Candidate,
You will be asked to state your ‘strongest area of economics’ in advance of your EAC. Your assessors will ask you questions to explore your knowledge of the topic in the final part of your interview.
You must pick one of the topics from the following list which is specific to the GES Assistant Economist 2025 campaign (relevant topics are listed in alphabetical order):
Behavioural economics
Cost-benefit analysis
Development economics
Economic growth (including productivity)
Environmental economics
Financial economics (money and banking, not inflation)
Fiscal policy
Game theory
Health economics
Industrial economics
Inflation / monetary policy
International trade
Labour markets
Taxation (not fiscal policy)
These are standard topics, many of which you as an economics student/graduate will have covered in your degree. Your assessors will confirm your choice at the start of your interview and then ask you questions around this topic. Your Assessors are interested in the economic theory and application (not the politics) so make sure you have covered both as you prepare. You might need to demonstrate your ability to think things through from first principles. There will also be a question on a topical issue.
